Arising from the philosophical conviction that our sense of space plays a direct role in our apprehension and construction of reality (both factual and fictional), this book investigates how conceptions of postmodern space have transformed the history of the impossible in literature. Rowling, sondern auch durch spanischsprachige Autoren wie Carmen Martín Gaite und Juan José Millás gezeigt. see more Aus diesem Grund wird in vorliegender Arbeit ein Vergleich zweier Werke der beiden Schriftsteller durchgeführt. Aufgrund ihrer Gemeinsamkeiten werden Caperucita en Manhattan und El orden alfabético hier als Primärliteratur verwendet. Vor der Analyse von Millás' und Martín Gaites Büchern werden fantastische Elemente zunächst im Allgemeinen in einem Theorie-Teil erläutert. Dabei wird eine Einführung nach Todorov gegeben und Merkmale in der Erzählebene, die Bedeutung von Wirklichkeit und Realität, aber auch Raum, Zeit und die Motivik veranschaulicht. Anschließend erfolgt eine Abgrenzung der Fantastik von Märchen, Magischem Realismus und Fantasy. Danach wird das Neofantastische vorgestellt. Erst dann können die Werke El orden alfabético und Caperucita en Manhatten analysiert und miteinander verglichen werden. Dabei wird nach einer Inhaltszusammenfassung versucht, zu beantworten, welche literarischen Merkmale sich in den beiden Werken finden lassen. Danach werden jeweils Motive, Symbole und Charakteristika herausgearbeitet. Mit der Annahme, dass beide Protagonisten mitunter in einer Parallelwelt leben, ist im Anschluss zu fragen, welche Rolle die Fantasie spielt und inwieweit Traum und Realität in den Werken verschwimmen. Ein wesentlicher Punkt ist auch die Bedeutung von der Fantasmatik der Sprache bzw. Buchstaben. Bei der anschließenden komparatistischen Untersuchung stellen sich außerdem die Fragen: Welche inhaltlichen Gemeinsamkeiten gibt es? Lassen sich formale oder technische Übereinstimmungen finden? Haben die jeweiligen Protagonisten ähnliche Charaktere? Im Anschluss wird diskutiert, inwieweit sich beide Werke literaturwissenschaftlich einordnen lassen und ob sie eindeutig der Fantastik zuzuordnen sind. Nach einer Zusammenfassung der Ergebnisse der Arbeit wird zudem letztlich die Frage aufgeworfen, welche Bedeutung Millás' und Martín Gaites Schaffen für die Gegenwartsliteratur in Spanien hat.
